St. Louis Cardinals fans had reason to celebrate earlier this week, when it was announced a new Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum would be built as part of the Ballpark Village outside Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis.
If you didn’t hear the news already, here are the highlights from the announcement:
- St. Louis-based architecture and design firm PGAV Destinations design the Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum as part of the $100 million first phase of Ballpark Village.
- The St. Louis Cardinals maintain one of the largest collections of artifacts in all of Major League Baseball; the upcoming 8,000-square- foot space will showcase Cardinals baseball heritage and history.
- Ballpark Village will be a seven city-block development just North of Busch Stadium that will combine retail, entertainment, office, and residential space.
- The new addition will be a first-of-its-kind in the nation and is cited to create more than 1,000 construction jobs and 500 permanent jobs just in the first phase.
No firm timetable was given for the project, but some sources have suggested the new facility might be open in time for the start of the 2014 baseball season.
