It is almost time for Chocolate season! February 20-21 is the annual Wine and Chocolate Trail in Hermann. This, I believe, is my fifth year of partaking in the chocolate feast. Six of us load up into my friend’s van and head down the road to Hermann.
We almost always have started at Robller because it is the farthest away from us. They have a really cute gift shop with fun stuff for any wine lover. Next we travel on to Bias, which has always had great chocolate samplings along with some of my favorite wines. The first year they served some mulled wine which really hit the spot on a cold February. This is a rain, shine or snow event and the weather has definitely varied over the years, but when chocolate and wine are served do you really care about the weather?
On down the road is Oak Glenn definitely one of the most scenic views of the Missouri River and they have excellent port wine. Finally we make into town and usually hit one of the many restaurants in Hermann. Somehow I am still able to fit dessert, to the amazement of my friends. Of course they still “try” my dessert!
Once in town we hit Adam Puchta, Hermannhof and Stone Hill. All have wonderful wine and beautiful historic grounds. It is usually a very full day but if you take some time in between pairings there are some great antique stores. If you don’t feel like turning around and heading back home you could always stay at one of the many B&Bs in the area.
