What a beautiful day for a float trip on the Current River! The weather was perfect — nary a cloud in the sky — and the sun was nice and warm, the perfect counter to the brisk, 60-degree waters in the spring-fed Current. Let me just say this, that is some cold water!! And, before I get too far, I need to amend my previous post so I can say thanks to our Bonne Terre Mines tour guide, Donna, and our Missouri State Mines Historic Site resource, Arthur. Both are very knowledgeable about their sites and are engaging and passionate about their work. THANKS!! Today, MoTravelMama, Leah and Danny and I took about a four-hour float on the Current River. The folks at Akers Ferry were great, the river and the scenery were awesome and mother nature sure is wonderful, too. After we left the river, we saw Alley Spring and Blue Spring, both beautiful sites you definitely should check out when you’re in the region. And the drives to these sites are an adventure themselves, with incredible forest and bluff scenery along the way. It was a tiring day, but one I think the four of us will always look back on fondly, especially Danny and I, who enjoyed watching MoTravelMama and Leah crash their canoe into the sand and rock banks — and the occasional tree — about 25 times. Ah, what a day!!
