When you think summer fun, think of making your next trip to Columbia! With an array of fun activities for any outdoor lover, a summer getaway in CoMO will heat up your summer in the very best way.
Hit the Trails (find some wine!)
Columbia is home to over 50 miles of trails that wind through the city’s neighborhoods, open spaces and lush forest areas. Columbia’s longest trail, the MKT, is nine miles long and meets up with the statewide Katy Trail just south of town at McBaine. The connection to the Katy Trail opens up the entire state from Columbia, so there are many adventures to be had!
May we recommend a nice day trip to Rocheport via the trail? Located just west of Columbia, the section of the Katy Trail near this small town is among the most picturesque in the entire state. Get fueled up with breakfast in downtown Columbia (we love Café Berlin and Ernie’s) then set out for Rocheport. Once you arrive, head up the hill to Les Bourgeois Winery and enjoy lunch at their bistro with incredible bluff top views of the Missouri River as well as delicious food. After lunch, explore the friendly antique shops and galleries in Rocheport before pedaling back to Columbia for a great night’s rest.
Sing it Loud
There aren’t many things that shout summer like an outdoor concert. Columbia is a true music city year round, but the 10th Street Summerfests put on by the Blue Note each summer are not to be missed. These concerts shut down an entire block, giving them a true festival feel, and the lineups each year are varied and top notch.
Any hot summer day needs a break to splash around, right? Columbia has plenty of pools to take a dip in, but there’s something extra fun about running through a sprayground. Both Stephens Lake Park and Flat Branch Park have these great features that turn into a water-filled playground at the push of a button. Bring your kids or just relive your childhood and cool off from the summer heat.
Take a Break
There aren’t many things better than a warm summer night spent on a patio having frosty beverages.
Love margaritas? Las Margaritas in south Columbia has a lakeside patio, friendly staff, delicious food and, of course, an array of margaritas.
If you want to go where the locals go, hit the patio at Flat Branch Pub and Brewing where the beer is cold, the food is tasty and the patio is just shady enough to enjoy on the hottest of days.
If handmade, unique cocktails make your taste buds happy, head over to Bleu. Next to the courthouse in downtown Columbia, Bleu has a beautiful open patio. What better place to sit and enjoy one of Bleu’s trademark rosemary lemonades?
If catching the game and sipping on an ice-cold beverage is more your speed, there are plenty of patios to pick from. The District is bordered by three college campuses, so there’s always an open seat for a casual outdoor experience. Pull up a chair on The Heidelberg’s or Harpo’s rooftop patios and take in the view or keep it on the ground at Willie’s or Bengal’s.
