Warmer weather is upon us and as temperatures continue to climb, so does the excitement in Jefferson City! Here are a few highlights to add to your “outdoor adventures in Jefferson City” itinerary.
Have a “Colorful” Easter Weekend
The Color Vibe fun run series is hosting the Central Missouri Color Vibe 5k for people of all ages, April 19, in downtown Jefferson City, on the Corner of High and Madison Streets. Participants can run, walk or dance their way through vibrant color stations. You won’t want to miss the after party hosted by a professional sound crew and world class DJ Streak! This event is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the colorful holiday in an unforgettable way with your family and friends!
Dance in the Streets
Block parties, concerts, carnivals and more! Summer time in downtown Jefferson City heats up with these popular events. Kicking off the fun each Thursday in the month of June is Thursday Night Live! Visitors can join the masses at the corner of Madison and High Streets for this family friendly event including live music and special offers from local vendors.
Jefferson City’s annual 4th of July celebration, Salute to America, is not one to be missed! Featuring the largest fireworks display in Central Missouri, this two day event fills the city’s downtown festival district with carnival rides, a massive parade, concerts, beer gardens, car shows and more!
Winding down the tide of summer entertainment is the Capital Jazzfest. This one-day-event, happening the first weekend of September, honors and preserves the art of Jazz and blues musicians by providing a fun environment for visitors to groove to the tunes.
Watch a Film under the Stars
After a day full of sightseeing and a delicious dinner from one of the city’s many locally owned restaurants, what more could you ask for than lounging on a blanket watching your favorite flick under the bright moon?
Jefferson City’s free outdoor movie series, Stars under the Stars allows you to do just that. Movies begin at dusk and play on a large, inflatable screen on the Missouri State Capitol’s South Lawn. Just bring your own popcorn, candy and drinks (no alcoholic beverages) and a lawn chair or blanket. This is also the perfect opportunity to see how majestic the Capitol building looks glowing in the twilight.
Refresh your Mind at a Cozy Retreat
Jefferson City’s downtown boosts a bed and breakfast offering captivating views of the city’s natural landscapes. If you’re traveling by bicycle on the Katy Trail, head across the Missouri River on the Pedestrian Bridge to the Cliff Manor Inn. The charisma and rich decor of this historic mansion will mesmerize you. You’ll feel at ease resting your head in one of four stately rooms, two of which overlook the Missouri River from your own private porch. The Inn also offers bike storage and easy access to the city’s numerous attractions with its prime downtown location.
