Try These Missouri Decadent Desserts on Fat Tuesday

Today is officially Mardi Gras – French for Fat Tuesday – a day famous for satisfying your ultimate food cravings, not to mention parades, beads and hurricanes (but that’s another story). To celebrate, indulge in one (or two… or three) of the Show-Me State’s extravagant desserts sure to appease any sweet tooth.

Visit Cyrano’s Café in St. Louis where pastry chef and owner, Carolyn Downs, creates handmade pastries and desserts daily.  Delight your taste buds with the piled-high World’s Fair Éclair and triple-layer carrot cake. Order one of their unique Flambés meant for two – sharing optional.

Located in Columbia, Murry’s Restaurant and Jazz Club has a variety of desserts made in-house. Daily options are written on dry-erase boards hanging around the restaurant, as they rotate and sell out quickly. If you catch the Death by Chocolate on the menu, order it, and die happy (not literally, of course).

Not only does Beyond Sweet in St. Louis serve “fair food” such as fried Oreos and funnel cakes, they’ve become quite famous for their over-the-top milkshakes. So much so, in fact, that their first 800-square-foot location was too small to accommodate their growing number of customers, and they had to relocate to a new, larger location on the Delmar Loop.

If you’re looking for a Valentine’s Day treat, My Daddy’s Cheesecake in Cape Girardeau created a chocolate dipped strawberry cheesecake to celebrate the holiday. Want to try all their cheesecake flavors?  Order the Four Flavor Daddy Sampler that includes four slices each of the classic, berry swirl, forbidden fudge and turtle cheesecakes. Try to share.

Dino’s Cake & Coffee Co. in Branson is known for their signature 24 Karrot Carrot Cake, and for good reason.  But if three layers of deliciously moist carrot cake topped with rich, cream cheese frosting is not your jam, their jumbo cupcakes are available in a variety of flavors.

The Tres Trifle at Gram & Dun on the Plaza in Kansas City is coconut milk cake, lemon tres leche crème, and lemon cheesecake, topped with frosted raspberry and mint whip.  Not decadent enough?  Pair with one of their dessert wines or cocktails for the ultimate dessert experience.

Whether you are an ice cream connoisseur, cheesecake fanatic, pastry lover or all of the above, Missouri has an extravagant dessert perfect to satisfy your most indulgent cravings.
