The Lake of the Ozarks is definitely one of the best summer destinations in Missouri. You could spend every minute on the Lake if you wanted to. But if you don’t, the Lake Area offers tons of other things to do, from golf to shopping to massive mini-golf complexes. Check out a sample four-day trip idea at the Lake of the Ozarks. A key part of having a great time at the lake (or anywhere else, actually) is having great meals while you’re on vacation.
Below is a taste of different dining options at the Lake, categorized by what kind of dining experience you’re looking for.
- BBQ, Lake Style
- Ladies Day Out
- Lakefront Fun
- Breakfast for Champions
- A Little Bit of Dinner with Your Wine
- Elegant Night Out
- Sweet Tooth
This is some seriously great BBQ at the Lake in a brand new, recently renovated location. Try the nachos to start and if you’re lucky, you will go on a day when they have burnt ends as the special. They are amazing! Wobbly Boots is also the place to go to catch the game on their 110-inch TV.
Think: beautiful salads, soups, and sandwiches with, of course, fresh-brewed teas. Located in Main Street Landing, you and your girlfriends spend a day shopping the antique stores and boutiques with a stop for lunch at the tea room. Don’t forget about the “Sweet Finale” menu at the end of lunch; since you did all that walking while shopping you can splurge a little!
When you first walk into the Vine you are blown about by the clean, chic art galleries, then you smell the delicious food and it all makes sense. Take a seat at one of the tables, set up in a wing of the gallery, and enjoy a glass of wine and a meal. Part of the “slow-food” movement, you should keep in mind this meal is meant to be savored and enjoyed, not that you’ll have a hard time doing so. Make sure you try the panna cotta for dessert, if available.
This lakefront eatery is an attraction and restaurant all in its own. With sand volleyball courts, beach-front seating and outdoor tiki bars, you’re sure to have a fun lake experience. And if you need to get out of the sun for any reason, there are indoor seating options and bars. Need a private space for a celebration? Captain Ron’s can help you out. Plus you can drive right up on your boat to the docks to grab a bite to eat after a day on the water.
Shorty Pants is the Lake of the Ozarks’ favorite Cajun restaurant and is located right on the water with a marina, gas dock and outdoor tiki bar. Shorty Pants has live music to be enjoyed all summer long on the waterfront deck. If you want to try a quirky menu item that is very delicious, order the Alligator Eggs.
With a gourmet breakfast buffet (think omelet and waffle stations) and a full breakfast menu, you will never leave hungry. The omelets are amazing and Ozark specialties are served daily. If you’re staying at Tan-Tar-A resort, it’s just a quick walk from your room.
Two words: Cinnamon Rolls. They are huge and delicious. Not only are the cinnamon rolls mouth wateringly good, so is everything else. I hear if you want something savory, go for the biscuits and gravy.
This winery is located right in town and has a stunning panoramic view of the lake. Offering 13 wines to sample and buy, plus a brick oven for pizzas, it’s easy to spend a few hours enjoying yourself and the view.
7 Springs is gorgeous, located on a hill overlooking rolling Missouri foothills. Do some wine tastings and then enjoy your favorite bottle out of the patio or covered porch. Wine not your thing? Enjoy micro brews and a menu full of pizza, soups, cheese trays and salads.
This is a Lake Area hot spot that, of course, is home to a stunning view. Baxter’s has great American cuisine paired with great service. The view is just the cherry on top. Make sure you save room for dessert, the Dessert Platter is perfect for sharing and lets you try a little of everything, making it an indecisive dessert orderer’s dream come true!
Exceptional dining with one of the best bluff-top views you can get of the lake. JB Hook’s serves fresh ocean fish and steaks. You can dine on the outdoor patio or in the dining room. Not looking for the big elegant meal? The Shrimp and Oyster bar at JB Hooks is a great place to grab drinks and a light snack. Want a recommendation? Try the Steamed Blue Mussels, they are cooked perfectly.
Randy’s is the original frozen custard stand at the lake and still the favorite among locals. Famous for their Ozark Turtles and, oh boy, are they good! Don’t be discouraged if there is a line wrapping around the building, this tasty treat is that good and the line moves fast.
Everything is handmade just like your own grandma use to do. Try a sample of fudge or pick out your favorite flavors from the buckets that line the wall filled with salt water taffy. The chocolate covered strawberries are truly mouth watering.
