You’re coming to Columbia, Mo., to see the Mizzou Tigers mop the floor with your beloved team in SEC action.
Although you won’t have success on the field, diamond, court, mat or pitch, or in the pool, there are plenty of ways to forget the crushing loss just (or about to be) suffered.
Missouri’s fourth-largest city has a wealth of options for food and drink, diverse retail shops and spots for outdoor fun where you can work through game-day emotions.
Here are just a few …
Toast to another day: Grab your friends and a cold drink as you raise your glass to “getting ’em next time” at Truman’s Bar and Grill.
Turn to pie: If you’d rather turn to a warm sweet than a cold drink, do what the locals do. They go to Peggy Jean’s Pies for everything from banana cream to sweet potato.
And also pie: You didn’t think we’d write a story about Columbia and skip Shakespeare’s Pizza, did you?
Escape from reality: Leave your present situation behind and find refuge in film at the independent Ragtag Cinema.
Take the high road: Enjoy epic views of downtown and relish one of Columbia’s nightlife options on The Roof atop the Broadway Hotel.
Retail therapy: Explore The District to find everything from Missouri-made goods to clothing and accessories. Art galleries and performance venues are part of the fun, too.
Go nuts for doughnuts: Craft doughnuts are most definitely a thing and Harold’s makes some of the best – like chocolate peanut butter cake – in SEC country.
If your team does manage to win, be a good sport about it. It’s fine to wear your “home” colors in Columbia’s friendly, college-town atmosphere. You might get a little smack talk, but you won’t get smacked.
Unless you happen to be a throwback to Mizzou’s Big 8 and Big 12 days and show up in KU gear.
Then all bets are off.
