Pack a bag and throw the kids in the car, we’ve put together a summer weekend of family fun in Cape Girardeau!
Start out bright and early Saturday morning at the Cape Riverfront Market at 8 a.m. This downtown farmers market has produce, baked goods, crafts and more. The 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month from May through August, kids ages 5-12 can participate in the Marketeers club! This farmers market program helps kids learn about nutrition, science and growing food.
Head over to the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center at 9:30. Get hands on with nature at the animal print tracing station, the wildlife viewing areas and the puppet theatre, or check out a kid’s hiking backpack or fishing pole (it’s free, and they’ll hold your driver’s license while you enjoy it). There might be a garden tour or program too; the nature center’s programming schedule is creative and regular.
1:30 and it’s time for the Discovery Playhouse, a children’s museum! Perfect for kids 11 and younger, your little ones can shop in the grocery store, splash in the Secret Water Garden, milk a (fake) cow, watch balls zoom and woosh through the tunnels of Air-Maze-ing fun and more.
Bounce house time! Explore LeBounce, an indoor inflatable play centre for ages 2-12 with jumping castles, giant slides and obstacles courses (don’t worry, there’s an adults seating area where you can kick back), or Orange Monkey for those 8 and up, with new bouncers, an indoor zip line, climbing wall, paintless paintball and more.
Finish out your Saturday of fun with dinner. Maybe order in?
Savor a leisurely morning with breakfast and a late wake-up on Sunday morning. Lazy L Safari Park opens at 10 a.m., and this walk-through zoo is your first stop! Feed the baby goats, visit Parakeet Jungle and get up close and personal with over 50 species of exotic animals.
Grab a quick lunch at noon and head to Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center! From infants to kids at heart and everyone in between, Cape Splash has something for all ages. Float on the lazy river, adventure down a flume slide, splash with your little ones on the watery playground or on the splash pad, or start that book you’ve been to under the shade of one of the many funbrellas!
Whew. That was a lot of fun for a weekend! Fuel up with dinner for the drive home.
