Missouri Summer Festivals 2017

With celebrations of everything from food, music and regional heritage to the arts, the nation’s founding and international cultures, Missouri has a variety of fairs and festivals to enjoy this summer.

Your summer travels in the Show-Me State might lead to the El Dorado Springs Picnic (July 20-22), a community tradition that includes nightly performances by the El Dorado Springs Municipal Band – said to be the oldest municipal band in Missouri.

If you’re looking for something that’s food-focused, we’ve got you covered. Head to Plattsburg on June 3 for its annual BBQ Bash on Main Street, then go to Chillicothe for a new event, the Grillin’ and Chillin’ BBQ Contest, June 30-July 1.

For festivals with international flair, visit the St. Louis African Arts Festival (May 27-29) at the World’s Fair Pavilion in Forest Park and check out the art, jewelry, clothing, food and demonstrations. Then, make your way to Missouri’s largest city June 16-18 for Fiesta Kansas City, a celebration of Hispanic culture featuring music, food, dancing and exhibits.

One of Missouri’s largest annual events, the Missouri State Fair, runs from Aug. 10-20 in Sedalia. A celebration of the state’s agricultural heritage, the fair includes livestock exhibits and shows, along with concerts, carnival rides, truck and tractor pulls and a generous helping of fair food. Headline performers include country music legend Alan Jackson, with Lee Ann Womack, on Aug. 12, and Little Big Town on Aug. 19.

Oh, and don’t forget all the festival fun shaping up around the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse. Cities from St. Joseph to Ste. Genevieve are celebrating the phenomenon with events leading up to and on the day of the eclipse. Learn more about eclipse events in Missouri by clicking here.

No matter which kinds of events you enjoy, one thing is sure: it’s going to be a fun summer in the Show-Me State. Check out the list of events below and use VisitMO.com to plan your Missouri adventure this year.
